File:Великий Голицын – князь Василий Васильевич, фаворит царевны Софьи.jpg[edit]

No source provided. As far as the description at the bottom is printed on Old Orthography, this picture is taken from some book published in Russia before 1917. The problem is that this description is totally unrealistic: it reads that the portrait was created around 1710 while this person was either imprisoned or exiled since 1691 till his death in 1714, so it is absolutely impossible that it is his portrait indeed (not to say that his clothes and haircut have nothing in common with the historical appearance of Russian people circa 1700). Andrei Romanenko (talk) 03:37, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  •  Keep I added a source for the image. Armor and wearing a powdered wig was always something worn by nobility in that era, look at any of the images we have from that era. Artists also kept stock images of bodies, in which they would add the face when needed, or recycle an older image by paining over the old face, for a new client. --RAN (talk) 12:35, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It is nice that you have found the same picture at the archived version of some website but you cannot claim this page is the source of our image: their version of image is of much worse quality and bears no printed description taken from some pre-1917 Russian edition. Your link can only prove that some other websites also believe this portrait to be of this person. Then about the picture itself: you are totally wrong. Russian nobility of that era never wore this kind of armour and haircuts of this style, and Russian painters of the time never worked in this style. You can compare this picture with three real portraits of the same person in Category:Vasiliy Golitsyn and see that this picture has nothing in common with them. This portrait was created between 1687 (when he was awarded with the order he has on his chest) and 1691 (when he lost all his positions, honors and property). After that he was exiled to the Far North of then Russia where he spent the rest of his life in the remote villages with no armours, no hairdressers and no painters. There is not a smallest chance that this portrait is really of Vasiliy Golitsyn. It would be possible to keep it as a false portrait of Vasiliy Golitsyn if we have the real source claiming that. But we have no idea what this source might be and what is the real origin of that portrait (which could be easily painted in the early XX century instead and in this case even could be copyrighted). Andrei Romanenko (talk) 18:09, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Commons:PCP requires that we have evidence that the image is incorrect or contemporary, we have two version of the image, and both make no claim that it is either an different person or a contemporary illustration. You are welcome to move this thread to the image page so people can be wary of using it to illustrate the person in question. If we delete it, it will just leave the two copies potentially misidentified elsewhere. We currently house over 4,000 images that are disputed. See: [1]. --RAN (talk) 19:08, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For me this means that it is legal to use it if the source is cited (as I have done it), but I would be happy to disapprove if the reasons are valid. Files in Category:Markttische (Cloister of Basel Münster)[edit]

Bettina Eichin is still alive Switzerland has a standard of life plus 70 years and COM:FOP Switzerland does only apply for places permanently accessible to the public. The Cloister of the Minster of Basel has opening hours, is usually closed during the night and is therefore not permanently accessible to the public. I only nominate those files where her art appears to be the focus of the image.

Pls dont make Deletion requests, if You misunderstand so a lot of Details. This Arte are not in a Room/chamber, then covered are not in either case interior. Then covered can bee outside. In that case you have not a windows or doers inside the position of arte and the courtyard. And in the courtyarg from the Basel Minster are quite certain a Position how FoP Swizerland are valid. Bobo11 (talk) 08:07, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Keep As Bobo11 pointed me to this discussion, I will not be involved as a closing admin here (as it is my principle in such cases to avoid any appearance of doing favours). However, I know this place, I have been there, and I think that given the nature of this cloistered court, Swiss FoP is applicable. COM:FOP Switzerland explicitly states, with good sources from scholarly literarature, The place does not need to be accessible to the public all the time. If a park is closed during night hours, it may still be “accessible to the public” within the meaning of Article 27 provided the other criteria are met. The question then is, of course, whether we can consider the cloistered court as an exterior space. In my opinion, yes. It's not fully covered, and during the day, it is used by the public to pass through from Rittergasse street to the "Pfalz" platform at the Rhine. If the Markttische were placed in the church itself, I would agree with the deletion request. Gestumblindi (talk) 08:27, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have also been at the place, I have added two files to the Category:Ceilings of the cloister of Basel Münster, and I thought it was part of the interior of the church, so I believed the deletion request was valid. But I can also follow Gestumblindi in his assumption that it is not inside the church as there are usually not held any masses, at least not in my experience. Request unjustified. This is not complex logo, its text logo with simple geometric shape object representing crown. Nobody stated it is PD-old. Are you sure that you have your administrator rights rightfully, when you are not familiar with logo shape policy customs used on Commons?

You present images from many different countries - copyright laws are different in different countries, not the same. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 20:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Per COM:TOO Czech Republic: "The work must be 'a unique outcome of the creative activity of the author'.[[121/2000–2006 Art.2(1)]For photographs and computer programs, it suffices if the work 'is original in the sense that it is the author’s own intellectual creation'."[121/2000–2006 Art.2(2)] This is neither a photo nor a computer program, so that second sentence might not apply. The question to me is whether the shape of the crown is unique, or on the other hand, whether that shape of crown is old even though the whole logo is not, and therefore, no longer under copyright. Agree. The Dominic Solanke one for example is a screenshot from at least two videos showing the same highlights but for some reason the commentators audio can't be heard from both Fulham's and Bournemouth's channels making the videos identical to each other.

  • The reason YouTube hasn't taken the video down is because the EFL generally allows clubs to post match footage on their sites and social media content. The question is whether it is licensed correctly on YouTube.
  • COM:License laundering is something that can happen intentionally or unintentionally, where a YouTube user takes copyrighted content and assigns a free license. Even if YouTube shows a Creative Commons license, if the source material is copyrighted, then the resulting work is considered copyrighted.
  • Sure, we don't have access to the EFL's media contract terms. But we follow COM:PCP, specifically, #4. Not knowing who really owns the footage isn't a reason to keep an image. If there's doubt, the onus is on the uploader to show that the content is actually free to use. Since we have a pretty good idea that match footage belongs to the EFL, it's up to you to show that AFC Bouremouth correctly licensed the video.
I hope this answers your questions. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 16:27, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Same as above - content created by the club is fine, match footage is not.

Really... I mean he is a prominent footballer in a country where football sadly isnt very well covered, and he just made history for the Pakistan national team as staten in his Wikipedia page. As staten by FlippyFlink, the uploaded image clearly pass the guidelines of license verifiability. I really struggled to find an image of him watching the whole match for nearly 2 hours and the image in question is just a mere screenshot of a fraction of the whole video lasting just a few seconds as I precisely stated in the source section. I will eagerly wait for the conclusion of the discussion but this is just straight up disheartening. Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 00:57, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This is a scan of pages from an Azerbaijani book of unknown publication date and copyright. The book includes poems by Mohammad-Hossein Shahriar, Khalil Rza Uluturk, and Ramiz Rovshan, whose works are still copyrighted in Azerbaijan. At the very least, would need to know if the uploader "Shazcanavar" is the same person as the author "Əli Çərkəzoğlu". Johnj1995 (talk) 18:45, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

File:Neo-Posadism flag.svg[edit]

Out of scope: fictitious flag. Posadism was a real political ideology, but this was not its flag; "neo-Posadism" (as well as this flag) appears to be a joke. Omphalographer (talk) 19:37, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

 Keep per COM:INUSE. Di (they-them) (talk) 18:08, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Since you're the author of this file: can you confirm whether this image represents an actual flag commonly used by members of this ideology other than yourself? If so, can you identify a source for it? Omphalographer (talk) 19:35, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If I remember correctly, I based it on online memes when I made it, and I had seen similar things used on Reddit. Either way, it's not really relevant whether it's a real flag or not, because it's in use, so it's automatically within scope. Di (they-them) (talk) 01:41, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The reason I'm asking is because I'm considering removing the image from the Wikiquote page. If the flag is a modern creation and is primarily used as a joke, that doesn't seem particularly relevant to a page about a political figure who was active in the 1940s. Omphalographer (talk) 02:19, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think that removing an image from pages so that it is no longer in use so as to allow for its deletion is probably not a good idea. Di (they-them) (talk) 02:37, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Feel free to add a better description Trade (talk) 12:29, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Delete not buying Di’s “in use” argument. If something is in legitimate educational use, maybe, but this is in use on a user gallery, a general gallery of political flags, and a Wikiquote page (in a non-essential and basically deceptive manner, promoting the flag as significant enough to be one of only two images)— all trivial or decorative uses at best. Dronebogus (talk) 03:30, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Can't we just keep it as an internet meme? Commons already have plenty of those Trade (talk) 19:07, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Dronebogus: Regarding it being in a user gallery: "by custom the uploading of small numbers of images for use on a personal Commons user page is allowed if you are an active, constructive participant on Commons." I think that I count as an active, constructive participant on Commons considering I have been here for several years at this point and I am a patroller. Also regarding its apparent inappropriate use on Wikiquote: "It should be stressed that Commons does not overrule other projects about what is in scope." I believe he means that some of the photos are from the person he went to the gig with, doesn't mean that all of the photos are not his work, and it's not like he stole them from the internet so there isn't any copyright infringement in these photos. Mewhen123 (talk) 21:17, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But Ken Browne still needs to give permission for the type of COM:Licensing Commons needs. He should contact COM:VRT. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:31, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Under your logic this photo is also copyright infringement as the father isn't credited. Preferably I think a 3rd party should look over this issue. Mewhen123 (talk) 18:26, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's not my logic but COM:Licensing, and yes, for that photo, it needs to be established who owns the copyright. The fact that the uploader's father owned it doesn't prove he shot the photo and therefore owned the copyright, but an explanation to COM:VRT would be able to clarify that point. Would you like to request deletion of that photo? Go ahead if you like. Meanwhile, I don't make deletion decisions here, and a 4th party called the closing admin will be the one to make that decision, but I don't think you strengthened your argument with your last reply. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:05, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Russian says "No RS", meaning "reliable sources". It also says that this is a hoax. Ymblanter (talk) 19:05, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Firstly, the linked source does not source the photo to "United States Armed Forces". As to any assumption of military provenance:

The US military has, in the past, contracted out its portrait photography to third party companies who've retained the copyrights to their work (e.g. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Amir Mirza Hekmati USMC.png, as well as my own experience in USAF basic training). To offer further context from NARA archivist Rachael Salyer: "Usually, the instructor of a training facility paid a civilian photographer to come to the base to take pictures. These photographs sometimes are filed in the records of the unit but oftentimes they are just distributed to the individual members with no permanent copy kept. […] In addition, the "official" photographs of individuals are not considered permanent federal records by the respective military services and are not retained in separate collections by the services." Additionally, Basic Training Photos—a third-party who has contractual agreements with Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Moore, Lackland Air Force Base, and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Islandsays, "For personal use only. No commercial use, resale, sharing with others or posting to social media sites is allowed. All images contained on this site are copyrighted and may not be used in any form without prior licensing."
