Category discussion notification | Category:Trail Markers has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. |

Red algae[edit]
Hi. I seem to have missed your first post. A few observations:
- With the exception of Laminaria digitata, all the species you are requesting are North-east Pacific taxa.
- I live in Europe near a place where there are only sandy beaches.
- Laminaria digitata belongs to the brown algae and has a reasonable image on commons.
That said, I will make pictures of identified red algae when I have the opportunity, but don't hold your breath. Cheers. Lycaon (talk) 08:36, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Bladders[edit]
Those bladders are reminiscent of Kelp (Macrocystis sp.). The generic name comes from the Greek words Μακρός = big and Κυστις = pouch/bladder. I'm not a botanist however, but rather specialized in North Sea benthos... Cheers. Lycaon (talk) 22:51, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've added some precisions on the picture file. Cheers. --B.navez (talk) 07:08, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:55, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Misidentified Image File:Polygonatum biflorum 01.jpg[edit]
Hi Jomegat, I am a German living in Germany, so I am not an expert regarding wildflowers from North America, but it is perfectly clear that your image File:Polygonatum biflorum 01.jpg does not show Polygonatum biflorum, see e. g. [1]. I haven't seen Polygonatum biflorum and I have never been within its range of distribution, but it looks pretty similar to Polygonatum multiflorum, which is rather common in Germany. I suggest that your plant must be Streptopus lanceolatus (see e. g. [2], [3]), which is one out of three species from this genus in North America (see [4]). I know the species from British Columbia. Is your plant from North America? Best regards --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 14:55, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Robert. I am not an expert either. Yes, this photo was taken in North America (in New Hampshire specifically). Thanks for the correction. --Jomegat (talk) 20:51, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- I changed the ID. Unfortunately the image is used incorrectly on several pages, and there appears to be no proper image of the species on Wikimedia Commons. So I am not sure, what I can do about the respective pages, except for adding a comment. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 15:31, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Addition to my comment: I removed most of the respective images, i. e. that from Wikispecies and those from the Spanish Wikipedia, but not that from the bloom clock. I have some doubts whether it should be removed or replaced at all. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 15:57, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'll take a look at the bloom clock. Any of the log entries I made there are of this very plant that I photographed and misidentified. If my logs are are the only ones for that plant, then it's a simple rename. Otherwise, i need to either create a new log or just delete my entries. In any case, the picture can remain since the text will discuss the actual plant under consideration (no matter how poorly named). Thanks again for pointing out my error. --Jomegat (talk) 19:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Misidentified Veronica[edit]
Hi Jomegat,
your photograph File:Veronica peregrina 2131.JPG does not show Veronica peregrina, but a different species of the genus, probably Veronica serpyllifolia. The pedicels of the fruits of Veronica peregrina are supposed to be much shorter than in the photograph, i. e. less than half the length of the calyx (see 93rd edition of this German flora). Even though this probably refers to ripe fruits, the image shows that the pedicels become even longer after blooming, because the lowest ones are the longest ones. In addition, the comparatively bigger flowers and the blue stripes on the flowers would be rather unusual for Veronica peregrina. I do not know, however, whether there are any lookalikes of Veronica peregrina in New York. Best regards from --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 12:38, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. --Jomegat (talk) 19:41, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- I changed the description and the category. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 11:14, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks again. I don't know how I missed doing that. :-/ --Jomegat (talk) 11:57, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- You are welcome. You might wish to check your bloom clock pages as well, where your image is still called Veronica peregrina. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 13:09, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
