Hiiumaa piltide kategoriseerimisest[edit]

Nädalavahetusel Hiiumaale tehtud retke pilte hakkab lisanduma siia. Varasemast aastast on ka kaks kategooriat. Nende kategoriseerimist tasuks üle vaadata küll, et need paremini leitavad oleks. Vast ka mõningaid külade kategooriaid juurde tekitada. Kruusamägi (talk) 18:57, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A quick question[edit]

Hello,

Back when you unblocked me, why didn't you tell me that "Asking others to make edits on your behalf is not appropriate. If you are desperately trying to edit wikis where you are blocked, please, please request a proper unblock. Please stop asking others.", as was the case with this other guy?
See, that is something that I wish Surjection or Chuck Entz (or even Justinrleung) had told me earlier. Seriously. Man, I wish I knew why none of them ever bothered to tell me anything like that. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 14:49, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I do not need to point [out] every possible violation and say, that you must not do that. Of course Masum Reza and Sebari are right: asking others to edit a wiki, where you are blocked, is prohibited as abusing multiple accounts. Taivo (talk) 15:52, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well then, why was that apparently not the case with what I wrote on Eirikr's talk page? See, Calvinkulit was blocked for a very different reason--namely, WP:NOTHERE--than I was (mine was "disruptive edits").
And I have to say, Taivo, your command of English colloquial usage is a little, uh, thin. If I were you, I'd wanna ask Eirikr to check my grammar/word usage whenever I were to reply to anything written by a monolingual English speaker. Just giving ya some advice, don't take it too hard. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 22:14, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This was a bad [piece of] advice. Eirikr has only 4 edits in Commons on current year [in the current year]. I do not want to wait [a] whole month, until Eirikr comes back to Commons. Often [an] answer is needed on the same day.
And I want to say, that it is difficult to understand monolingual English speakers. They use difficult words in sometimes strange context [words, sometimes in a strange context]. "Colloquial" – I did not know the word, but it was in my dictionary. "Command" – this word is used in [with a] strange meaning, but by context I understand, that you point to my bad ability to write English. "Uh" – such a word is not in my dictionary, but by context I understand that the word has no special meaning. "Ya" – such word is not in my dictionary and even by context I do not understand, what it means. You see, monolingual English speakers use strange words like "uh" and "ya" without understanding that they are difficult to understand for non-native speakers. Conversation with non-native speakers is easier, because they use simpler words. Taivo (talk) 10:45, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
"Ya" is a colloquial form of "you". "Uh" is what they call a "filler word"; similar words are "like" and "um". "Er" and "erm" are spellings used in non-rhotic dialects.
(If I could pronounce the alveolar trill, I would mock non-rhotic dialects by rolling all my postvocalic r's, as in "You can talk about yerrr sheep dorrrgs" when reading this poem aloud.)
And speaking of "strange words"...when you get some free time, see if you can decipher all the mondegreens/"vocal puzzles" in this humorous Redneck Dictionary without the help of Eirikr, Surjection and Lugria. (For instance, "healthy" translates to "hell if he", and "insidious" translates to "instead he is".)
And maybe you could ask Surjection, Chuck Entz, and/or Lugria to check your grammar/word usage, seeing how Eirikr isn't available. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:12, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, and by the way, "asking others to edit a wiki, where you are blocked" is not prohibited if those other users "are able to show that the changes are either verifiable or productive and they have independent reasons for making such edits", per WP:PROXYING. I think Surjection might have raised the issue mainly because of his lack of expertise with the pages I've edited (that is, he automatically assumed they were disruptive because he didn't know enough about their language). Eirikr and Lugria didn't have that lack of expertise (unless where they indicated as such), so they clearly had their own reasons for making those edits. (I'm not sure about Justinrleung, though.)

Also, I have a feeling that Surjection also thought and still thinks (unlike Chuck Entz, who doesn't seem to think that anymore about me) that the act of not reverting those proxy- or sock-edits would give me an incentive to evade my block (that is, with IPs) even more. I have to say, I know for a fact that he has it backwards in my particular case. Just shedding some light on this proxy-editing thing for you. Don't take it too hard. Subject's consent for image[edit]

Hi there, you undid my edit on File:L'actrice Luna Kwok (Guo Yue) et le réalisateur Yeo Siew Hua, saying that "Permission from depicted person is not needed". Actually, it is required, see "Privacy rights" of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policy: "When taking pictures of identifiable people, the subject's consent is not usually needed for straightforward photographs taken in a public place, but is often needed for photographs taken in a private place. This type of consent is sometimes called a model release, and it is unrelated to the photographer's copyright."

This picture was taken at a film festival screening, and therefore qualifies as a "photograph taken in a private place". Adsfghj (talk)

At first, this is English Wikipedia policy, which does not apply in Commons. At second, film festival screening is a public, not private event. Taivo (talk) 08:23, 5 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You can refer to the Wikimedia Commons policy here, which states "In many countries the subject's consent is needed to just take a picture, and/or to publish it ... even if the person is in a public place ... Commons requires photos to be legal in all of the following polities: (a) the country in which the photo was taken." Commons:Photographs of identifiable people.
The photo was taken in France, which requires permission to take and publish a photo: Commons:Country specific consent requirements.
I am undoing your edit. Adsfghj (talk) 05:50, 6 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Discussion is going in Commons:Deletion requests/File:L'actrice Luna Kwok (Guo Yue) et le réalisateur Yeo Siew Hua.jpg. Adamant explained there, why consent is not needed and why we have subject's consent, although consent is not needed. Taivo (talk) 16:04, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, This is quite a notable Indian school, so probably OK. Yann (talk) 11:16, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

en:IIFD is a red link, search for name gives nothing. Taivo (talk) 11:19, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Commons notability criteria are much larger than Wikipedia. So even if it is not eligible for an article, it may be OK on Commons. Yann (talk) 11:21, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am not sure what are the notability criteria for universities on Commons, but this is similar to en:Indian Institute of Fashion Technology. Yann (talk) 11:26, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I restored the logo and created a regular DR. Taivo (talk) 19:03, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think magazines and newspapers with a regular publication are accepted on Wikidata, so their logos should be OK on Commons. Yann (talk) 11:23, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Complex book covers can be in Commons only with VRT-permission from copyright holder (cover artist?). Taivo (talk) 12:28, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear Taivo, thank you for the attention to this photo, but the cover artist has no problems or claims concerning it. Copytron (talk) 17:53, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That case maybe he can send VRT-permission, which proves, that he has no claims. Taivo (talk) 19:09, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Taivo, rights owner have sent VRT-permission, which proves, that he has no claims. He did this in July. This is why the picture was recreated. There is completely no need to delete it again. Could you be so kind to undo this.--Copytron (talk) 16:43, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Copytron: I wrote about it in Commons:Volunteer Response Team/Noticeboard. Maybe somebody can search the permission e-mail. Your help is needed. Please write a permission number or other relevant data. File history does not show existence of the permission. Taivo (talk) 17:12, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For now, I learned that it was done by the rights holder 14th of July. Hope this is enough to find the permission and we will solve this issue with your kind help. Copytron (talk) 17:21, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Finally solved (I hope). Thank you, Taivo. Copytron (talk) 11:40, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ühe foto taastamist[edit]
